What do you think of Fasthosts?

The web host - what are they like?

What do you think of Fasthosts?

Used them for a large period about 2 years ago.

The machine got hacked and racked up some serious bandwith which they charged us a fortune for (with little help).

On the plus side the technical support is usually pretty responsive and is all ticket based so at least things can be followed up.

Oh and they have starwars playing on their tech support queue line which you%26#039;ll get very used to.

Depends what sort of hosting your after really, if your going to pay out a reasonable amount for a service that you need to be reliable for multiple or a big site then fasthost would seem a decent choice.

Other than that if your only operating something small, give bluguy a go, ive found them very very cheap and very responsive, though i only have the one site on there.

Setting up a website that will alllow high bandwidth.?

I want to start a website that can cater for high bandwidth.

I have been told that I will need a server as most web hosts wont allow high bandwidth. My website will hopefully be as big as youtube. So the server must be capable of high bandwidth so users can upload movies and pics.

What server should i buy to start off with?

Will i need to buy my own IP address? as somone said that internet providers wont allow high bandwidth.

Can someone point me in the right direction, im a total novice when it comes to servers etc.

I know my website will be a huge hit! I need to know where i can get some advice on servers etc..

Hope you can help....

Setting up a website that will alllow high bandwidth.?

What you will need for starters, are sponsers, and a lot of them, because bandwith, costs lots of money.

You should do a search on how many gigs a site like youtube eats a minute/day/month...

You will be dazzled...

Then, go search for a dedicated server, wich also will cost a lot, with at least a 100Mbit connection directly to a backbone, for good steady connections. Make good agreements with the hosting company, about the costs of extra bandwith and so on, to save on troubles afterwards...

Setting up a website that will alllow high bandwidth.?

You are going to need a dedicated server, you can lease or buy them from many web hosts, and then pay very high rates for a service with high bandwidth. You can bankrupt yourself just starting something this big, so start with a normal hosting service and move the site as soon as it picks up momentum. Be aware that unless you control what is uploaded you will be targetted by the copyright protection agencies, there are sites being closed daily at the moment.

GoDaddy, RackSpace, 1%26amp;1 all offer different levels of bandwidth for varying costs.

You can always start small and as your need increases build up from there. It is common to see websites change servers/packages as they grow.

After all, can you really afford the amount of bandwidth that YouTube sucks down? No way, Jose.

This is a SCAM. Check out the below link for confirmation of several email scams including the famous Yahoo/MSN lottery scams and how to report them :

http://www.consumerfraudreporting.org/lo...

Unscrupulous thieves have sent you this email and they are trying to part you from your hard earned cash. They will often ask you to call a premium rate number and keep you holding on whilst you rack up a huge phone bill. They are then paid a large proportion of this phone bill. They may ask you to divulge personal information about yourself or ask for your bank or credit card details. Do not divulge any such information under any circumstances. It is surprising how many innocent victims have been duped by these types of emails. Just remember the thieves who send them are very clever and extremely convincing. I suggest you delete the email and send it into cyberspace, hopefully along with the thieving scumbags who send them.

Other Replys:ABSOLUTELY A SCAM!!!

Other Replys:It is a definite scam . During this month of January I have received over 35 such E-mail telling me that I have won a number of prizes exceeding 100 million Dollars. One of the messages I have received is identical to yours but from a different person.

Other Replys:could be a scam looks convinsing but then again their ment to

tell me if it was

Other Replys:Well, think about it. You didn%26#039;t buy anything, how do you think they are giving anything away?

I emailed one of them back and said oh yea ok do you want my bank account number? They had the nerve to email back and say thank you for responding.

another one i emailed back hey nice scam, had any takers yet?

Lisa

Other Replys:Yes, it is scam

Other Replys:You don%26#039;t get anything for nothing, it%26#039;s a scam do not answer do not give personal information. The following sites give more information.

www.scambusters-419.co.uk

www.truthorfiction.com

.Also If you go to the following link you will get some info on ID theft www.identity-theft.org.uk the iinternet is safe enough if you are careful but please answer nothing that you are doubtful about.Good Luck and be careful

Other Replys:It%26#039;s about as realistic as finding a convent full of bikini clad nuns. You receive an unsolicited email, which states that you have won a major prize in an international lottery. Supposedly, your email address was collected online and attached to a random number that was subsequently entered in a draw for the lottery. In order to claim your prize, you are instructed to contact the official %26quot;agent%26quot; in charge of your case. You are also advised to keep the win confidential for %26quot;security reasons%26quot;. This part of the scam is basically a random phishing expedition. If you respond in any way to the email, the scammers will send further messages or even contact you by phone in an attempt to draw you deeper into the scam.

You may be asked to provide banking details, a large amount of personal information, and copies of your driver%26#039;s license and passport. Ostensibly, these requests are to prove your identity and facilitate the transfer of your winnings. However, if you comply with these requests, the scammers will have enough information to steal your identity.

Sooner or later, the scammers will request some sort of advance fee supposedly to cover administration, legal or delivery costs. At its core, this scam is just a reworking of the Nigerian loan fraud, in which scammers also eventually ask for upfront fees to facilitate the %26quot;deal%26quot;. Like Nigerian scams, victims who do actually pay the requested fees will probably find that they receive continuing payment demands to cover %26quot;unexpected expenses%26quot;. The requests for money will go on until the victim realizes what is happening or has no further money to send.

In some cases, the scammers give victims the option of opening an account at a particular bank as an alternative to paying upfront fees. However, this %26quot;bank%26quot; which is completely bogus, will insist on an initial deposit of $3000 as a requirement for opening the account. The fake bank will have a legitimate looking website to reinforce the scam. In other cases, the victim is given the option of travelling to an overseas destination and paying a cash fee to facilitate the release of the funds. However, any %26quot;winnings%26quot; released to the victim will be counterfeit and therefore worthless.

The details of the lottery scams vary regularly with regard to the name of the lottery itself, the country of origin, the sponsoring organization, the amount of the %26quot;prize%26quot; and other particulars. The scammers try to add a patina of legitimacy to their claims by mentioning real financial institutions, government departments or well-known companies. They may also provide links to slick looking, but fraudulent websites that are designed to back up information included in the scam emails. If the scammers are successful in establishing a dialogue with a potential victim, they may provide %26quot;proof%26quot; such as a scanned image of a supposed government official%26#039;s ID and even photographs of the %26quot;winnings%26quot; in cash.

How can i view my site on the internet even without connection to my hardrive?

How can i view my site on the internet even without connection to my hardrive?

...Since you mentioned you have uploaded your other files, have you updated your HTML code to actually refer to the newly uploaded files? Because if you didn%26#039;t, it will still refer to the files linked inside your computer.

How can i view my site on the internet even without connection to my hardrive?

You could start by using English, then maybe people can understand you.

Other Replys:Sorry, you can%26#039;t type well enough to do this

Other Replys:Is English your first language?

Perhaps you could try to ask this in the Japanese version.

Other Replys:If your computer has been your site before heaps of times it will come up with out connecting.. but only the front page.. you really have to be online..

Other Replys:your computer won%26#039;t even startup without your hard drive

Other Replys:Hwo cna u axes it iff it ain%26#039;t on?

Other Replys:what is scary is I almost understood your question,Almost....

Other Replys:If you used Frontpage to create your website, you will have problems if you linked to files locally (i.e. on your computer). Check the base HTML link code with a text editor and check to see if you have something like

%26lt;a href=%26quot;C:\My Documents\mysite\mypage.html%26quot;%26gt;Link Name%26lt;/a%26gt;

You need to change this to something like

%26lt;a href=%26quot;mypage.html%26quot;%26gt;Link Name%26lt;/a%26gt; if the file is in the same directory on your web server, or

%26lt;a href=%26quot;directory/path/mypage.html%26quot;%26gt;Link Name%26lt;/a%26gt; if the files are in a sub-directory on your web server.

Note the difference in the direction of the %26#039;slashes%26#039; between the directory names.

Also please write correct English, unless you%26#039;re dyslexic, in which case I apologise.
