What do you think of Fasthosts?

Used them for a large period about 2 years ago.

The machine got hacked and racked up some serious bandwith which they charged us a fortune for (with little help).

On the plus side the technical support is usually pretty responsive and is all ticket based so at least things can be followed up.

Oh and they have starwars playing on their tech support queue line which you%26#039;ll get very used to.

Depends what sort of hosting your after really, if your going to pay out a reasonable amount for a service that you need to be reliable for multiple or a big site then fasthost would seem a decent choice.

Other than that if your only operating something small, give bluguy a go, ive found them very very cheap and very responsive, though i only have the one site on there.

What you will need for starters, are sponsers, and a lot of them, because bandwith, costs lots of money.

You should do a search on how many gigs a site like youtube eats a minute/day/month...

You will be dazzled...

Then, go search for a dedicated server, wich also will cost a lot, with at least a 100Mbit connection directly to a backbone, for good steady connections. Make good agreements with the hosting company, about the costs of extra bandwith and so on, to save on troubles afterwards...

You are going to need a dedicated server, you can lease or buy them from many web hosts, and then pay very high rates for a service with high bandwidth. You can bankrupt yourself just starting something this big, so start with a normal hosting service and move the site as soon as it picks up momentum. Be aware that unless you control what is uploaded you will be targetted by the copyright protection agencies, there are sites being closed daily at the moment.

GoDaddy, RackSpace, 1%26amp;1 all offer different levels of bandwidth for varying costs.

You can always start small and as your need increases build up from there. It is common to see websites change servers/packages as they grow.

After all, can you really afford the amount of bandwidth that YouTube sucks down? No way, Jose.

Then using a DO statement you can check to see if their IP is in that list.

You know -- I haven%26#039;t programmed forever, otherwise I wouldn%26#039;t have provided a code example. But I was thinking, you can break the IP up into the first ocet. %26quot;166%26quot; and ban any or all IPs that start with 166.

Then again, Javascript banning isn%26#039;t fool proof by any means.

If so, you can create one single script that will check the IPs, You can call that script from every page on your site. And have a redirect page giving a %26quot;ban message%26quot;.

I have a free account on wordpress, and i went to themes.wordpress.org to look for some new themes to use. I downloaded one and the Wordpress 2.15 or whatever folder and unzipped the theme folder into the themes folder in the wordpress folder.

The problem is that DNN doesn%26#039;t really differentiate content based on a User ID. If a user is registered, they can access any module that allows for it. You%26#039;d have to manually add them to an access list of the repository module.

You could, however, alter the repository module to display downloads based on the logged-in User.

No, there%26#039;s no list available for what you want. Some ISPs dont %26quot;play nice%26quot; with Yahoo. AOL, SBC, earthlink are a few that have problems. Some Hotmail users do but my HM account is fairly trouble-free.

A Dynamic or Static site.

If its dynamic then you got to update that perticular file. For instance a text file or so.

But static, you got to simply replace the old file with the new one. You could simply try saving it %26quot;Save as%26quot;.

You may not be able to use the standard PUBLISH method in Frontpage.

Ask the server administrator if you can PUBLISH from Frontpage or if you need to upload with FTP.

I suspect if you save your website on your local disk and use an FTP program to upload to the server, it will work fine.

I get lot of those spams too, there is no way you can stop them using a free email service. All you can do is report every single one of them you see in inbox as spam. Those spam use different email address each time, so it will come to your inbox again.
